Almost a Million people are lining up to buy the New Nokia 6 phone, What's so special about it?

There was palpable excitement at the imminent return of one of the great phones of yesteryears-- the Nokia. 

There were doubts as to its comeback especially when it was announced that the Nokia 6 was going to be a mid-range phone as opposed to a flagship, but that seems to have been dispelled as a great number of people in China (where it is being launched) who signed up on the pre-sale register. 

The very first day of registration saw a quarter of a million people sign up and now the number is almost a million (945k) for the January 19 sale.

So why are people so stoked for the Nokia 6?

While it is admittedly not a flagship phone, the device's simplistic design language and premium build quality has caught the fancy of not just Nokia enthusiasts, but also the new generation of consumers.

What is meant is that the Nokia 6 series comes with a premium metal-clad frame around the edge and nothing was spared for the power button and the volume which are on the right side as they were made from the same high-grade material.

There are two-grille speakers at the bottom to the right, a type C USB port at the center and a mic to the left and on top, there's a lone 3.5mm audio jack.

On the face of it, the new Nokia features the brand name on the top right corner and camera to its left. In the center, it house single-grille call speaker. The dual amplifiers is said to deliver a 6dB louder sound than a regular amp, giving higher voice, deeper bass and with Dolby Atmos audio system, listening to music on Nokia 6 will be enriching for sure.

While the phone is officially being only released in China, there have been rumours that HMD, who are the official licence holder of the Nokia brand, might announce the international variant of Nokia 6 along with flagship phone (that is Nokia 8) on February 26, one day ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, Barcelona (February 27-March 2).

So fingers crossed that the rest of the world gets to experience the durability and magic of a Nokia phone once more.

Cryptic Facebook Video By Nokia Hints at Surprises for 2017

Nokia seems to be getting back on their feet after some time in the shadows. The Finnish company had announced plans for an Android phone this year and now it seems it has even more in store.

In a new Facebook post teasing the arrival of its forthcoming Nokia 6, the company dropped a cryptic clue suggesting “more announcements” will follow on February 26.

February 26 happens to be the start of Mobile World Congress so this may have something to do with that but the company have refused to give out any further details as to what these “announcements” could involve. It is hoped though that it means new product.






As part of the revival process, Nokia struck a deal with Alcatel owner HMD Global that will see the company lease out the Nokia brand to the Chinese manufacturer for the next 10 years.

On the back of that, HMD revealed plans to build a modest $26 feature phone and then quickly followed up with the announcement of the previously mentioned Nokia 6.

To the dismay of fans though, this phone will only sell in China and it is planned that the Chinese market be properly explored.

While avid commenters rushed to speculate the announcement might have to do with a wider Nokia 6 roll-out, the company’s social media team was quick cool off the excitement. Seconding previous statements the device will remain exclusive to China, the phone-maker said it has intentions to bring all-new Android phones to other countries.

It remains to be seen if HMD can raise Nokia to its former glory. The Nokia 6 will be a great start, but only time will tell.

Welcome back Nokia, Welcome back to the Smartphone Game

Nokia is back...not with a bang, but they're back. After being acquired by Finnish technology company HMD Global (HMD) Sunday, they unveiled the Nokia 6, a mid-range Android smartphone for the Chinese market. 

The Nokia 6, which runs the newest version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android Nougat, sports a 5.5-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels) display. With metal on the sides and a rounded rectangular fingerprint scanner housed on the front, the Nokia 6 seems reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S7 (without the blowing up bit)

As for what's under the hood, the new Nokia smartphone is powered by a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor putting it in range with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy A series models.

Other features of the Nokia 6 include a 4GB of RAM, and 64GB internal storage. The Nokia 6, which also houses dual amplifiers capable of delivering louder sound, features a 16-megapixel phase detection auto focus camera on the back and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

"China is the largest and most competitive smartphone market in the world," the company said in a press note, justifying why its long-anticipated smartphone is limited to the Chinese market. "Our ambition is to deliver a premium product, which meets consumer needs at every price point, in every market."

The Nokia 6 was believed to debut  at the Mobile World Congress in February but that has changed and an earlier launch could help the company capitalize on the Chinese New Year which could be a big plus.

While many would have wanted a high end flagship phone from Nokia, the guys at HMD are playing the long game, releasing a mid-range phone that would be easier on the pocket of the average man in a region like China before making the jump.

Nokia 6 Entirely Sold out in Just a Minute in First Flash Sale

The much awaited Nokia 6 mid-range smartphone today went on its first flash sales in China and as was expected, the device was sold out in just a minute. The Nokia 6 was already headed to being a hot selling smartphone, considering the over 1 million persons that registered their intention to have the 1699 yuan smartphone.

As we hinted earlier, the Nokia 6 is on sale in China exclusively on e-commerce platform Jingdong (JD.com). The 1699 yuan price tag might be considered as expensive for some, considering the smartphone packs a lowly Snapdragon 430 chip onboard. However, such perceived deficiency is made up for by the premium, rugged build the device featured. The smartphone also comes with a large 4GB RAM, which could ensure it doesn’t lag when apps are installed. The smartphone is expected to go on a second round of flash sales in the coming days but Jingdong is yet to announce a date for that. However, the number of units sold on the first flash sale is noy yet disclosed, but we hope Nokia has enough units in stock.
