Android History.

Google always choose Android code names alphabetically. All Android code names are belong to dessert ( Candy , Chocolate , sweet sugar food etc.). 
Although some version have more than two level appears to correspond to changes in the developer API levels, but this is not always true like  3.0 and 3.1 are both "Honeycomb" but all of them have  different API levels. 
Mostly Android Developer choose only a specific one name and reason behind it inconsistency is not currently known.

Android OS code names are as follow .  Note that versions 1.0 and 1.1 were not publicly named. However, Android 1.1 was internally referred to as "Petit-Four"
