JDI Announces Mass Production of New 5-inch WQHD LCD Panels

Japan Display Inc., the company jointly found by Sony, Hitachi, and Toshiba to merge their display businesses, has announced that it has begun the mass production of a new type of LCD display panel. The new panel, which combines the WQHD (1445×2560) resolution and a new low-temperature poly-silicone LCD module to create a display panel that reduces power consumption and improves the image signal at the same time.

JDI also included its proprietary 2nd-generation Pixel Eyes in-cell technology which enables the panels to have thinner borders and allow for the operation of the display even with wet fingers. Additionally, the display panel also comes with a built-in ciruit chip with the ability to adapt to either 30Hz or 60Hz usage as well as upscale Full HD 1080p content to Quad HD.

According to the company, the new superior display panels will be making their way into the hands of manufacturers soon which means we should possibly start seeing smartphones featuring the new advanced displays sometime in the second half of 2017.
